The Common Core State Standards were written to create the next generation of K-12 standards that help ensure that all students are college and career ready (CCR) in literacy no later than the end of high school. By their structure, the standards encourage curriculum writers to take a comprehensive approach that coordinates Language Arts and Math with courses in other subject areas in order to help students acquire a wide range of higher level knowledge and skills through reading, writing, listening and speaking.
